We’re Gillian and Alex — a husband-and-wife team from California, USA and Liverpool, UK.

We met on a retreat deep in the Amazon jungle and fell in love despite the fact that Gillian could barely understand Alex’s accent.

One week later, we had our first date at Machu Picchu.

Over the last 11 years, we’ve travelled the world together, lived in multiple countries and spending months at a time chasing sunshine and adventures across the globe.

There was just one problem: Gillian is a legendary overpacker. Just look at her poor future husband on their first trip together.

No matter how lightweight her bikinis and summer dresses were, her luggage was always overweight. How was this possible? It was shoes!

Different outfits meant different shoes, and after years of travel, hauling heavy suitcases around airports and cobblestone streets became exhausting.

That’s when inspiration struck.

After remembering reading about how Marilyn Monroe changed the ribbons on her shoes to match different outfits, Gillian had an idea: create beautiful, lightweight interchangeable shoes designed for travel, versatility, and everyday wear.

And that’s how Boho Row was born.
